How to change my post title
The impact of MNPT’s work does not stop at the school gate. Across Machakos County, teachers trained through our programme are taking health awareness into their communities — organising barazas, speaking at church gatherings, and leading household visits alongside local health workers.
Teachers as Community Health Champions
A teacher holds a unique position of trust in any Kenyan community. Parents listen when a teacher speaks. Neighbours pay attention. This social capital — built over years in the classroom — makes trained teachers extraordinarily effective health advocates outside school hours.
One teacher in Mwala, trained by MNPT in early 2026, has since co-facilitated three community health sessions with the local sub-county health office, reaching over 200 adults on topics including nutrition, hygiene, and HIV testing services.
Building a Network of Change
MNPT is developing a structured Community Health Champion programme that will formally recognise and support teachers who extend their impact beyond the classroom. Champions will receive supplementary training, resource kits, and linkages to local health facilities to support referral pathways for community members who need care.
